Founding History
Working in Paarden Eiland, Tony Kings refuelled at a local garage, Prestige Motors. The garage owner, Richard Deane, was a Jaguar owner, who decided to sell his Mark 2.
He contacted Jaguar owner clients and friends, some of whom attended the 1978 Hout Bay Classic and Vintage car show, where he wished to sell his car.
While at the Hout Bay meeting, Tony Kings approached various Jaguar owners as to whether they would be interested in forming a club, to which they answered in the affirmative.
As the majority of those approached were connected to competition-based interests at the Killarney race track, Tony suggested that they convene there.
A date was set, and seven Jaguar owners met on 27th January 1979.
The Jaguar car owners attending this initial Killarney meeting were as follows;
- Tony Kings (founding member)
- Ken Billson
- Jeff Vye
- Basil Bennett
- Andy MacRobert
- Brian Bradley
- Brian Crawford
As noted in the 1979 year book, an initial steering committee was formed, and so the Cape Jaguar Drivers Club was officially established.
